The site is also within walking distance from several popular hiking and biking paths, as well as a public boat launch. However, this is not just a popular place for summer adventures–Pine Tree is also just a few minutes drive from Snow Summit and Bear Mountain ski resorts, making it a great option for winter as well.

Located on the north side in the San Bernardino National Forest, you’ll have easy access to fishing on the lake, as well as hiking trails in the National Forest. Not sure which trail to hit first? The Big Bear Ranger Station is within a mile of the campground, where visitors can pick up maps and get their trail questions answered by the Park Rangers.

The campground does not provide direct access to the lake, but a boat ramp is available about a mile away. The nearby Big Bear Discovery Center is also a great way to get to know the area.

The resort has access to the lake and bike paths, and a great place for fishing (you’ll even find a fish cleaning station). You can also rent bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards direct from the campsite.

The main draw of Pineknot is its easy access to mountain biking. The Snow Summit ski lift is a great way to hit the trails and get amazing views.

You’ll also be just a mile from the south side of the lake, for wakeboarding, fishing, and swimming. Last but not least, the marina and water rec area is located just five miles from the campground, so you can rest assured you’ll have plenty to do all day!

Hanna Flat is an excellent spot to get in touch with the outdoors, with the Gray’s Peak and Hanna Flat trails close by. You can also catch the Pacific Crest Trail just 1.5 miles away.

The 85 campsites offer no hookups or showers, so it’s a more primitive camping experience, as well. Picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and tap water are available.

Need to pick up some stuff? The town of Fawnskin is less than 3 miles from the campground, offering groceries, restaurants and fuel.

The park doesn’t have all the amenities of other nearby campgrounds, but still offers restrooms, tap water, and a dump station, as well as picnic tables, fire rings, grills, and food storage lockers. The double sites are a must when going with a group of 10 or more people.

Campsites are far enough away from each other for privacy and the amount of trees is not too dense, which means great star gazing opportunities!
